An Australian psychiatrist arrested and charged for allegedly recording a child in a West Edmonton Mall washroom earlier this month is seeking to be released on bail.
Dr. Aaron Voon, 41, appeared by closed-circuit TV in an Edmonton courtroom Tuesday for a bail hearing. The judge reserved her decision until Thursday.
There is a court-ordered publication ban on the evidence and legal arguments made during the hearing.
Voon, wearing orange Edmonton Remand Centre coveralls, stood silently during the appearance and only spoke once briefly when he confirmed his home address in Perth.
Voon is charged with voyeurism, making child pornography and possession of child pornography.
At the time, police said Voon was accused of using a “mobile device” to record a video of an individual in a movie theatre washroom at West Edmonton Mall on May 22.
According to reports from Australian media, Voon works as a child psychiatrist for a Perth practice called Successful Development and Therapy Centre at Cockburn Central.
There is a single review for Voon on Ratemds.com.
“Best specialist doctor you could have for your child,” reads the entry published Aug. 6, 2011.
